Sponsor WEEDeck - a system of identifying weeds

Following is an opportunity for your organisation to contribute to the production of a standard yet customisable national Pocket Guide for Weed Identification (WEEDeck). The development of WEEDeck will pool resources from organisations both public and private across Australia.

Given the enthusiasm that is being shown for this product, as of September 2006 we now have 202 cards sponsored by many different organisations.

The advantages associated with the joint development of this product include:

  • it is a more cost efficient option to use WEEDeck than developing a dupicate product as the information:
    • is up-to-date,
    • is constantly under review by experts in this field,
    • is easy to update because it is a card system, and
    • can be customised to suit the needs of your geographical area.
  • enough flexibility to carry your organisation's corporate identity or logo.
  • sponsoring organisations will gain exposure on each sponsored card when it is sold as part of a WEEDeck.
  • an opportunity to use a high standard, nationally consistent product.
  • potential users of a customised WEEDeck may include:
    • community based groups (landcare, bushcare, catchment groups, coastcare, friends of groups etc.)
    • municipal and shire council officers
    • government officers (local, state, and federal)

Cost of sponsorship

It is expected that the cost of sponsoring individual weed cards will vary between $500 to $1000 and is dependent on the number of photographs needed to effectively illustrate the key identifying characteristics of the particular weed. Following the development of individual weed cards each will be made available for use through customised pocket guides.

Organisations that are involved in the sponsorship of individual weed cards will receive a discounted rate on the entire WEEDeck.

It is by working together that we can minimise duplication, increase resource efficiency and give the Australian community a sense of combined effort and achievement which results in improved weed management across Australia.
